I have diabetes. Do I need to take pictures of my retinas?

Why is it necessary to take pictures of the retinas when you have diabetes?

Diabetes can cause retinal disease that can lead to impaired vision. This can be treated, but it's important to detect changes early. See facts about diabetes and vision.

How often do I need to do this?

In case of normal conditions or minor changes, having a control every two years is sufficient.

How long do I need to have these examinations?

Diabetes is a lifelong disease, so everyone is followed up throughout their lives.

I have diabetes and have not been to such examinations. What do I need to do?

You should contact your general practitioner, a medical department, or an optician to get a referral. You can also contact us directly.

Do I have to pay for a photo appointment?

Yes. All patients are required to pay the standard deductible unless the limit for a card of exemption (Frikort) has been reached.

I have a “Frikort”. Do I have to pay then?

No. We have access to this information.

How do I make the payment?

You will receive a text message with the card or Vipps payment info. If we send you a giro, there will be an additional giro fee.  Here's how to pay with your phone..

The appointment doesn't work for me, what should I do?

Please contact us at 919 22 770 (Monday to Thursday, 08:30 AM - 03:00 PM) or send an email well in advance.

What happens if I miss my appointment?

You must pay for non-attendance, which is the same as a regular deductible. You will get a new appointment.

Will I know the answer to the survey?

Yes. You will receive a text message with a brief description of the findings and a notification when you can expect a new call.

I received an SMS after the review of my photos. What does it mean?

What does the optometrist who takes pictures do?

Trained staff at your local optometrist's office will capture one image of each eye.

Who examines my images?

Images are sent encrypted and securely for examination by trained personnel/specialists in eye diseases /automated systems, to the clinical unit in Bodø.
